Easter showbags: Nerf guns, chocolate and Peppa Pig prove popular

Fairy wings and shimmer powder? Check. Devil's horns and an inflatable baseball bat? Check. Gourmet olive oil and a timber bread board? Check.

The showbags at this year's Sydney Royal Easter Show really do have something for everyone. But when the school-age connoisseurs were let loose on all 336 of them at Wednesday's launch, toys and chocolate prevailed.

It was like Christmas had come at Easter for the 30 children from the Royal Far West service and Children's Hospital at Westmead who tested the showbags.

Will Coady-Jiear, aged 9, picked "mega" showbags packed with toys. "I like the nerf guns and shooting them at my brothers," he said.

Jacinta Halstead, also 9, chose the Aero and Wonka bags "because they are really yummy and tasty and they are my favourite" and the Smurfs bag with pencil case, stickers and notebook.

Ryan Mackander, 7, liked the "fun stuff" in his Detective and Mega Western bags, while Mark Smith, 9, considered his NRL State of Origin and Angry Birds showbags a warm-up to the main game.

"I'm going to the Easter Show, so I can pick one or two others," the league fan said. He was saving up for a Wests Tigers showbag for his big sister "and maybe a Newcastle one for me - you never know".

The Show's chief operating officer, Michael Collins, predicted Peppa Pig would be a huge drawcard in the showbag pavilion this year.

Peppa's brother George also has a bag, driven by demand from little boys who like Peppa, but not enough to sign up for the hair clips and inflatable wand.

Mr Collins urged families to do their showbag research online and to stick to a budget when they visited the show, which runs from April 10 to April 23.
