A bag snatcher escaped with an elderly woman’s handbag at Merrylands on Sunday.
About 9.20am, a 66-year-old woman had her bag snatched from behind by a male on Newman Street.
The woman tried to hold onto her bag, which contained cash and personal identification, but the offender pulled it from her grasp and was last seen turning left onto Oxford Street.
During the robbery, the woman fell to the footpath and injured her right elbow. She was treated by paramedics at the scene but did not require hospitalisation.
Holroyd Police would like to speak to a male who may be able to help with their inquiries. He was described as being of caucasian appearance, about 17 years old with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jumper, light grey track pants and white joggers.
Police now believe the woman was followed on Cambridge Street prior to the robbery. Anyone with information should call Merrylands Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
