RESIDENTS are encouraged to get their hands dirty on Sunday by taking part in one of the Clean Up Australia Day events across Parramatta.

Almost 100 people have already registered across a number of locations including Parramatta Park, Lake Parramatta at Illawong Drive and Ermington Bay at Seamist Ave.

Parramatta lord mayor John Chedid asked residents to sign up to help keep waterways, parks and roadsides clean and safe.

"It's a great opportunity for the community to show their pride in their city," Cr Chedid said.

Cr Chedid said there were a number of sites across Parramatta still in need of volunteers.

"It's also a chance for the community to enjoy a fun day out and make new friends," he said.

"Bring your family and friends along to a registered Clean Up Australia Day site to help reduce litter and keep Parramatta beautiful."

To register a group or to find more Parramatta clean-up locations visit cleanup.org.au. Once you have registered, visit the waste and recycling section at parracity.nsw.gov.au to advise if you will need help removing the rubbish collected.
