Federal cabinet could sign off on a western Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek next week.
The airport would be supported by a $250 million transport infrastructure package to connect residents to the facility and is welcome news to the Western Sydney Airport Alliance.
Alliance spokesman David Borger said the airport would have a transformative effect on western Sydney by bringing thousands of jobs closer to home.
“The NSW Government has previously expressed reservations about the investment required to connect the airport to Sydney’s existing transport network,’’ he said.
‘‘I hope that this report will encourage a more co-operative relationship between the two levels of government to support the airport and the thousands of jobs it will generate.”
Mr Borger said building roads and extending the South West Rail Link would be a relatively low-cost operation as the land around the Badgerys Creek site was relatively undeveloped.
“Connecting an airport at Badgerys Creek to the close by South West Rail Link and the M7 Motorway will be an absolute bargain basement deal for Sydney,’’ he said.
