Catch a train, pop out to park

JAPANESE drummers, sheep shearing and ponies are all part of an eclectic Australia Day program at Bicentennial Park in the Olympic precinct.

The free event which includes food stalls, rides, workshops and, of course, fireworks.

An Aboriginal dance ceremony will be followed by performances by South American flute players, Japanese drummers and Polynesian dancers. There will be a colonial dance as well as whip cracking, sheep shearing and sheep dog trial shows off the stage.

The event starts at midday with rides and entertainment from 2pm, the official ceremony at 5pm and fireworks at 9pm. A free shuttle service will operate from Auburn and Lidcombe stations for the whole day.
