Lynn Yeh was announced Parramatta's Local Woman of the Year as part of the 2014 NSW Women of the Year Awards yesterday, December 18.
Member for Parramatta, Dr Geoff Lee — who nominated Ms Yeh — said the awards are an opportunity to recognise outstanding women and the contributions they make to NSW and the local community.
Dr Lee said he nominated Ms Yeh — a business woman and entrepreneur — for her inspiring efforts.
Ms Yeh, a second generation migrant from Taiwan, started her own business working as a delivery girl while completing her master’s degree at the University of Sydney.
At the age of 24 Lynn invested all her savings, around $20,000, to start up what is now a leading pharmaceutical company.
Minister for Women, Pru Goward visited Rydalmere to congratulate Ms Yeh on her award and to hear about the work she has been doing in her local community.
Nominations for the major awards can be made at www.women.nsw.gov.au and close on Monday, January 9, 2014 at 11pm.
The winners of the major awards will be announced at a reception hosted by the NSW Premier on Friday, March 7 at Parliament House, on the eve of International Women’s Day.
