A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder after police found the body of a woman in a house in Guildford.
Police were called to the house on Davidson Road, Guildford, about 6.30am on Wednesday after a report of an assault, Sergeant Dave Rose from NSW Police said.
When they arrived, police found the body of a 32-year-old woman.
Sergeant Rose said the man and woman "were known to each other".
A neighbour said the incident occurred in a granny flat at the back of the property.
"Two people usually live there."
"I don’t really know them. I just say hi, how are you, when I see them."
Early reports said the woman was stabbed multiple times, although police declined to confirm.
"We have only said [the death] is a result of an assault," Sergeant Rose said.
The man was arrested and taken to Parramatta police station where he was charged.
He has been refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday.
