One of Sydney’s top jockeys will be a special guest of the Australian Turf Club at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Group 1 winning jockey Rod Quinn, who announced his retirement this week, will be honoured with a special presentation at the track where he had some of his greatest successes.
Quinn, his wife Allanah and their two daughters will be special guests at the Directors’ Christmas lunch where career will be celebrated.
The celebration will be a nostalgic back drop to the racing at the Blackwoods Festival Stakes meeting on the same day.
Australian Turf Club executive general manager of racing Matt Rudolph said there was great quality in Saturday’s fields.
‘‘This weekend marks the beginning of the Christmas racing season which runs through until the new year with a great program of sprints, the staying series of cups, and the Villiers over the Randwick mile,” he said.
‘‘It’s the time of year we often see talented horses on their way through their classes ahead of the bigger targets during the BMW Sydney Carnival and potentially a Tooheys New Golden Slipper contender among the two-year-olds.’’
Racegoers can compete in an obstacle race on the track in the afternoon – with the first five people to register from 11.30am in with a chance to win a $500 Myer gift card.
