His home team might not have taken the field but Thomas Hails had never been more excited about a rugby league grand final.
The Granville resident, 10, cheered from the sidelines before presenting the grand final rings to the winning premiership team last Sunday.
The Parramatta Eels fan said he was disappointed his team didn’t make the finals but had tipped the Roosters to win.
The opportunity comes via Telstra who this year partnered with the Starlight Children’s Foundation to give 10 kids the opportunity of a lifetime.
At seven-years-old Thomas went into kidney failure and needed eight months of peritoneal dialysis before he could receive his father, Peter’s, donated kidney.
With constant hospital visits and treatment his mother, Rachel, said he took it all in his stride.
‘‘He was amazing — I can’t believe what he had to go through and how well he handled it,’’ Mrs Hails said.
‘‘He’s a very strong little boy.’’
The family just returned from the Gold Coast where they visited four theme parks as part of Thomas’ birthday wish.
