More Jobs for western Sydney
The Merrylands Chamber together with other local chambers of commerce, NSW Business Chamber, councils and community groups in western Sydney are supporting the initiative for a "jobs plan for western Sydney".
Western Sydney has a population approaching two million people, two thirds of whom are of working age. More than 40 per cent of western Sydney residents hold tertiary or vocational qualifications.
Despite this pool of skilled workers, however, one in three residents are forced to commute outside the region for work.
This long daily commute has placed big strains on Sydney's congested transport infrastructure and the lives of commuters.
This is not sustainable and a plan must provide local jobs for western Sydney.
A "jobs plan" should be a priority and we urge the government to commence and conclude work for a plan in the 2014 parliamentary year.
Better court services for western Sydney
The Merrylands Chamber of Commerce, is also supporting the campaign for better courts at Parramatta at both federal and state jurisdictions to improve access for western Sydney residents to the justice system.
Parramatta has a well-established justice precinct that is significantly under-used, disadvantaging western Sydney.
