GIRRAWEEN resident Ricky Bugeja can now go places he could not before. After the extension of the Clayton Place footpath and installation of kerb cut-outs, the wheelchair-bound resident can now visit his neighbours and roam the streets as he pleases.
Ricky's mother Josie said before the footpath was extended she would worry when her son would drive his wheelchair on the road.
"Earlier this year, Ricky was able to attend his nephew's rugby league game down at the local sportsground for the first time, and we couldn't be happier," Mrs Bugeja said.
The project was highlighted by Holroyd Council's Access Committee, made up of 10 community members and two councillors who monitor the council's commitment to people with a disability in relation to access requirements.
A council spokeswoman said they want people with a disability to feel their well-being is being maintained and for them to have a sense of security.
