Greystanes resident Farres Aoun, 20, has excelled in soccer and competed internationally.
Aoun started playing soccer at the age of five.
He has played in Singapore, Malaysia, Italy, Milan and in England for both Manchester City and Bury FC.
Aoun left England because of injury and immigration requirements.
"Every player goes through stages of giving up where they question whether it's all worth it," he said.
"I went through that when I returned from England, not only did I not get to stay for as long as I had hoped, but I returned with a chronic injury and it all just puts you down.
"What keeps me going is remembering why I started. I look at professionals like Beckham and think, I want that," he said.
"I train six days a week but it's difficult to maintain a healthy diet because you have to cut down on other things like hanging out with friends and family."
Working hard is definitely paying off for Aoun who is on his way to reaching professional status.
"Season's just finished and I'm currently in rehab trying to get 100 per cent before next season. Trials are coming up next month for the NSW Premier League so I just want to be ready, then move up to A-League next year," he said.
"I'll spend a couple of seasons in A-League then move overseas. I'm thinking Germany and the top league, Bundesliga."
Australasian Soccer Academy head coach Tony Basha is immensely proud of Aoun's achievements.
"He's very dedicated, been the standout for us, good kid, good future, he's definitely good enough," Mr Basha said.
Aoun was named as the Fairfield Lions State League Player of the Year on Friday.
