A total fire ban is being enforced on Thursday with temperatures forecast to reach 31 degrees and winds up to 30 kilometres an hour.
Much of NSW, including Parramatta, Blacktown and The Hills, are in a total fire ban until midnight tonight..
The ban prohibits any fires out in the open.
The Bureau of Meteorology showed temperatures were expected to reach 31 degrees today.
A NSW Rural Fire Service spokesperson said gas or electric barbecues are allowed but only if it is on a residential property within 20 metres of the house; is in a picnic area approved by the council, National Parks or State Forests; is under the direct control of a responsible adult; the ground around the barbecue is cleared for 2 metres of all material that can burn; and there is an immediate and continuous supply of water available.
