Two window washers manually winched themselves to the rooftop of a Parramatta building after their window cleaning bucket broke down.
The men were stranded on the fifth floor of the Ferguson Centre on George Street for just over two hours with Fire & Rescue NSW on standby.
Superintendent Ian Krimmer said they were called at 9.15pm but the men did not want to be rescued and attempted to pull the bucket up manually.
‘‘We provided assistance to ensure the men were safe,’’ he said.
‘‘We had a hydraulic rescue platform to support them if required but the men managed to winch themselves to the top.’’
Two rescue trucks attended the incident.
No one was injured.
