The full program for this year's Parramasala festival in Parramatta has been revealed.
The King of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan, will shimmy his way down-under for the closing act of the festival at Sydney Olympic Park on Monday, October 7.
He will headline a two-hour Indian variety show called Temptation Reloaded that is expected to attract more than 5000 people from Sydney and interstate.
Other highlights include an opening night parade down Church Street culminating in a concert in Prince Alfred Park featuring the music of L-Fresh, Karifi and his African Union Beats and Bangalore music sensation Raghu Dixit and his band.
Masala Markets will also transform Prince Alfred Park into a bustling bazaar throughout the festival and a free outdoor stage will present a program of dance and music form western Sydney's communities, including the incredible Mallakhamb Acrobats.
A free shuttle bus between Harris Park and Prince Alfred Park will also run every 20 minutes during the four day festival. The full program is available here.
Lord Mayor John Chedid said Parramasala, now in its fourth year, will once again draw thousands of people to Parramatta.
“Parramatta is proud to host this unique festival which pays homage to so many of the cultures that call this City home,” he said.
“The 2013 program is filled with a huge variety of contemporary and traditional performances spanning a variety of genres and cultures. It shows that you don’t have to travel to the City for rich artistic and cultural experiences,” Cr Chedid said.
Destination NSW chief executive Sandra Chipchase said the festival was an important arts and cultural event on the NSW Events Calendar.
“The 2013 Parramasala program promises exciting performances from some of the world’s best artists and showcases the diversity and cultural richness of Parramatta to the world," Ms Chipchase said.
"Parramasala is presented in two key precincts in the heart of Parramatta; at the Riverside Theatres and at Prince Alfred Park. The closing night event, Temptation Reloaded, featuring Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, will be held at Allphones Arena, Sydney Olympic Park."
Parramasala starts on Friday, October 4 and ends on Monday, October 7.
