A FAMILY day care service in Merrylands will receive an estimated $285,000 in funding to tackle a chronic shortage of childcare in the area.
The federal funding will go towards training and monitoring of childhood educators at Holroyd Council’s Merrylands Children’s Centre.
"Having a network of educators who provide quality care for children in the community supports families who need the help," mayor Ross Grove said, "and we want to better service mums and dads who are crying out for that flexibility in childcare."
"Operators are responsible for the value of care they provide, and the federal government’s funding will go a long way in helping the council stay local to ensure education, support and training are readily available."
The scheme includes the option of a co-ordination unit to resource educators that care for and teach children in their own homes.
