HOLROYD councillors have called on the state government to immediately open Reconciliation Road in Pemulwuy.
Mayor Ross Grove said residents had lobbied the council to have the road opened to ease extensive delays in Pemulwuy and Greystanes.
Industrial businesses from the Fairfield local government area have also lobbied the council, Councillor Grove said, to open the road in order to improve their access to industrial and Sydney metropolitan areas.
But the council insists it is the O’Farrell government that needs to act.
"The first issue is that the Roads and Maritime Services approved Boral building Reconciliation Road, although it would span across three parcels of land, one owned by a private party and the other two by the Crown," he said.
"They now need to acquire those parcels of land and I believe have only now begun this lengthy legal process."
