THE Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE) and the Arab Film Festival Australia will present the Australian premiere of Scheherazade in Baabda at 7pm this Saturday, March 24, at ICE studios in Victoria Road, Parramatta.
There will also be a question-and-answer session on the night with Zeina Daccache (pictured), who is an international award-winning director and drama therapist.
The film documents the play Scheherazade in Baabda, which was created and performed last year by the female inmates of the Baabda Prison in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, as a part of a 10-month intense drama therapy which was facilitated by Zeina Daccache.
The play is based on the inmates' personal experiences such as drugs, sexual abuse, forced marriage and domestic violence.
The result is a self-revelatory performance in which the women inmates tell their stories through monologues and short scenes.
