City pride will be on the line when the Parramatta Eels take on Canterbury tonight with the mayors of the two city’s entering into a friendly water.
The wager will see the losing team fly the victor’s team flag outside the council chambers for a week.
Cr Chedid said the teams inspire great passion among their fans and respective councils.
‘‘Parramatta is one of Australia’s true footballing heartlands,’’ Cr Chedid said.
‘‘We’re passionate and proud of our team, the mighty Eels.’’
Canterbury mayor Brian Robson said Bulldogs are gearing up and ready to go one better this season, following their grand final performance last year.
‘‘Canterbury and Parramatta have always enjoyed friendly rivalry. Residents will be excited to see the Bulldog flag flying in the City of Parramatta when we win!,’’ Cr Robson said.
