Cricket match renews old rivalries

Traditional rivals Parramatta and Holroyd Councils will battle it out ont he cricket pitch in their annual 20/20 match this weekend. 

Parramatta lord mayor John Chedid, will lead his team to battle against Holroyd mayor Ross Grove from 12pm on Sunday, March 17 at Merrylands Regional Park Cricket Oval.

The cricket match is held annually to help raise money for the Parramatta District Cricket Club.

The cricket teams will include councillors, council staff from both councils and family and friends and will be captained by Cr Chedid and Cr Grove.

“It’s going to be a challenging match,” Cr Chedid said. 

“Parramatta narrowly won the game last year and hopefully, with some skill and luck, we will be able to take home the trophy again.

“This annual event is important for fostering membership for the Parramatta District Cricket Club, while supporting the growth and development of local cricket as a whole.

“I encourage everyone to come along and learn about the game of cricket, an Australian institution. Getting involved in a team sport is a great way to get fit and healthy and make friends whilst having fun,” Cr Chedid said. 

The day will include: 

- 12pm - BBQ Lunch 

- 12.50pm - Coin Toss

- 1pm - Game Commences
