Three hundred cannabis plants found in Northmead house after fire

Police have arrested a man after nearly 300 cannabis plants were located inside his Northmead house following a fire.

Emergency services were called to a home on Windsor Road about 6.30pm yesterday, Sunday, February 17 following reports of a fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW personnel attended and extinguished the blaze before police arrived.

Parramatta police allege they found a sophisticated indoor cannabis cultivation, consisting of 298 plants.

Police will also allege that the home’s electricity had been illegally by-passed.

No one was home at the time of the incident and officers commenced inquiries in a bid to identify and locate the occupants.

About 8pm, police stopped a car on Frances Street, Northmead, and spoke to the male driver.

He was identified as being the occupant of the Windsor Road home and was subsequently arrested.

The 57-year-old was taken to Parramatta police station where he was charged with numerous drug-related offences.

He was bail refused to appear at Parramatta Local Court today, Monday, February 18.
