Man suffers severe burns after fire in Guildford

A man was found with serious burns after a suspicious fire at Guildford overnight.

Police and firefighters were called to a unit fire on Guildford road about 11.30pm.

On arrival a fire in a ground floor apartment was located and extinguished.

The building was evacuated and one woman was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

Police said the fire is being treated as suspicious with a petrol container was located near the scene.

A short time later police and other emergency services attended Eastern Avenue, Revesby and located a 39-year-old man with serious burns to his upper body.

The man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where he remains in an induced coma.

Police from Holroyd Local Area Command are investigating the fire and believe this man might be able to assist with their inquiries into the fire at Guildford.
