Parramatta barbecue raises funds for bush fire victims

A fundraising barbecue for the Warrumbungle Shire Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal was held today to help raise funds for the families who suffered in the recent bush fires in Warrumbungle National Park.

Parramatta Lord Mayor John Chedid hosted the event.

The fire in the Warrumbungle National Park started on January 12 destroying many homes and 43,000 hectares of land.

The fire’s destruction in terms of loss of property, stock and destruction of wildlife is unprecedented in the area.

‘‘After seeing the media coverage of the bush fires, I felt it was important that we, as a community, did something to help the Warrumbungle Council’s fundraising efforts,’’ Cr Chedid said.

‘‘It is our duty and tradition to help fellow Australians rebuild their lives after disasters like this.’’

Donations can also be made at all CBA branches. Further details are available on the Warrumbungle Shire Council’s website www.warrumbungle.nsw.gov.au or by calling the council on 6849 2000.
