The bushfire season is well and truly upon us, prompting home owners to think carefully about the safety of their property.
Following the 2009 Black Saturday tragedy, builders and renovators are now required to use materials that meet new Bushfire Attack Level standards.
Australian glass manufacturer Viridian has engineered a specially processed bushfire resistant glass, PyroGaurd40.
Viridian residential marketing manager Justin Jays said glass technology had come a long way and home owners were now demanding more from their glazing options.
"Home owners want glass that does more than just keep the rain out," he said. "PyroGaurd40 is designed to meet the standards demanded in high risk, bushfire-prone areas."
But this glass does not sacrifice the look or comfort of a home, offering aesthetic appeal as well as protection.
"Home owners are conscious of the appearance of their home and with this glass they can avoid unattractive shutters or metal screens," Mr Jays said.
Tips to help keep your home protected from bushfires:
■ Consider installing non-combustible fencing around the home.
■ Consider installing metal or tile roofing.
■ Eliminate openings in the home such as vents and open eaves.
■ Keep piles of wood covered and stored a good distance away from the home.
