Emus being hosed down at Merrylands' Central Gardens
Emus trying to beat the heat at Merrylands
Apprentice horticulturist Catherine Welch spent her day watering the garden and the birds at Central Gardens.
Sock Puppet, the last of the animal sanctuary's hand-reared emus, loves being watered down, she said.
"Sock Puppet's the only one [of the emus] who'll have fun with it," Ms Welch said.
"They'll pant but if they're hot they'll sit down. They look after themselves really."
