GWS Giants coach Kevin Sheedy is visiting the United Kingdom to learn from the football clubs there in the hope of using the knowledge to grow the one-year-old team and its support base.
He was in the stands on the weekend to see United win a tense derby against Manchester City 3-2 and will later meet their coach Sir Alex Ferguson.
Speaking pitch-side before the game, Sheedy said his first Premier League match was a ‘‘fantastic experience’’.
‘‘To watch a local derby as big as this gives us a lot of food for thought as we try to build a similar rivalry with the Swans,’’ Sheedy said.
Sheedy’s trip to the United Kingdom will include a coaching forum with AFL Europe and a visit to the South East London Giants AFL club.
Sheedy will meet the Red Devils coach at the club’s Carrington training ground base.
Before leaving Sheedy gave Ferguson an invitation to visit GWS Giants training in Blacktown when Manchester United tour Sydney in July.
Manchester United will play an exhibition match against an All Star A-League team at ANZ Stadium on July 20.
Pre-sale tickets for the game sold-out in two minutes this week as organisers look to bring other big-name european teams to Australia in the future. English heavyweights Liverpool and Inter Milan have already been contacted to visit in coming years.
