Chance to give a dog a bone for Christmas

Holroyd Council is asking residents to help put food in animal bowls this Christmas season, as part of its annual Christmas Pet Food Drive.

“Pet food and toys that are donated during the annual pet food drive are the perfect gift for our hard-working local pet rescue organisations leading into the holiday season and such an easy way for people to help take care of neglected animals in their shelters,’’ Holroyd mayor Ross Grove said.

“Animals are an important part of so many people’s lives and they all deserve loving homes — or at least a full stomach this Christmas.

“It might not seem like much, but we rely on the generosity of the public for donations and could not operate without their support.”

Donations can be made at:

■ Stockland Merrylands, McFarlane Street, Merrylands;

■ LJ Hooker Greystanes, 665 Merrylands Road, Greystanes;

■ Nelsons Grove Retirement Village, 2 Newport Street, Pemulwuy;

■ BP Service Station, Corner Pritchard and Station Street, Wentworthville;

■ Merrylands RSL Club, 14 Military Road, Merrylands;

■ Holroyd City Council, 16 Memorial Avenue, Merrylands;

■ Wentworthville Library, 2 Lane Street, Wentworthville;

■ Westpac Bank Merrylands, 285 Merrylands Road, Merrylands; and

■ Club Merrylands Bowling, Corner Oxford & Newman Street, Merrylands.

Collections will take place until December 17 when all donations will be delivered to legitimate animal welfare rescue organisations in time for Christmas, a council spokeswoman said.
