ST GEORGE hold the world record of 11-straight premierships and no doubt there are other sporting teams with records that beat Wentworthvilles.
But there can't be many who have bettered Wenty A-grade rugby league team's seven successive titles.
The Magpies recent grand-final defeat of the Hills District means Wentworthville's is the only name on the Parramatta Cup, inaugurated in 2003.
Remarkably, theyve beaten different grand-final opponents each time.
In order, their opponents have been Mounties, Asquith, Auburn, Seven Hills, Guildford, Cabramatta and now the Hills District.
Even more remarkable, and an inspiration to all teams, is that Wenty have built this record from scratch.
The Magpies didn't have an A-grade team in 1996 and when they were re-admitted to the competition the next year, didn't win a game.
They improved - just - in 1998, winning one game.
Improvement was marginal in coming seasons but former Parramatta and Easts first-grader Ernie Garland laid a foundation as coach.
Fellow former Eels first-grader David Penna built on it and was in charge for the first three premierships.
Brett Cook, who coached Wenty to Bundaberg Red Cup success this year, was in charge for the fourth and prolific premiership winner Dave Nugent has been in charge for the past three.
There's been continuity through experienced players.
Fullback and centre Gavin Wardle has played in every grand final and so has prop Tom Petric.
Props Peter Alchin and Jim Dries and lock Trent Clarke have been in the last six.
