Eels take up soccer

28 Nov, 2007 10:22 AM
The Parramatta Eels pulled on the football boots for training on Friday, but not for Rugby League.

The Eels attended the International Goalkeepers Academy at Blacktown Olympic Park, under the instruction of former socceroo and current Sydney FC goalkeeping coach Jim Fraser.

The session was conducted as a part of the team's pre-season strength and conditioning training with a focus on increasing the players agility.

Team members were put through their paces and taught how to catch the ball, fall to the ground correctly, play a game and have a penalty shoot out.

Nathan Cayless and Luke Burt showed promising signs of developing into Australia's next goal keepers and Joe Gulavao broke the record for the longest kick.

The training session ended with a sausage sizzle much to the players delight.
