Still playing together

The World Masters Games may have finished but the Greystanes over-35 soccer players will play on. After all, they've been kicking a football around together for more than 25 years. They started as sub-teens and have stayed together through all the age groups, winning premierships along the way. They didn't win gold at the Games they took silver after losing a penalty shootout to a Newcastle team that drew players from everywhere. No matter there should be many games ahead.

Dani's in the running

Dani Samuels has been nominated in the major category in the 2009 Sports Performer of the Year awards. If successful the Merrylands world discus champion will join past winners such as diver Matthew Mitcham and cyclist Cadel Evans. Winners are chosen by public vote. Votes can be made at www.performerawards.com.au and close on November 20.

Goannas go on

Dave Barwick and Paddy Gallagher are the inaugural Holroyd Goannas hall of fame members. Barwick played a record number of AFL games with the club and is the brother of former Penrith league star and now sports broadcaster Russell Barwick, who also played with the Goannas. Gallagher won four best and fairest awards.
