IT WAS the Dopper and Copper Show as Parramatta continued their extraordinary run in the A.W. Green Shield cricket competition at Old Kings.
Historians had experienced paraoxsyms before Christmas when Parramatta’s Anthony Karam took a double hat-trick as Norths thirds were routed for just eight at
Merrylands Ovals.
Now Alex Dopper and Scott Copperfield have kept them
convulsed.
The duo routed the previously undefeated Easts for just 16 on Thursday.
The historians believe this may be the lowest score in Green Shield history.
Left-arm swing bowler Dopper and right-arm paceman Scott Copperfield had figures of 6-7 and 3-6, respectively.
Parramatta then scored the required 17 runs in six overs for the loss of one wicket.
The Greenies were undefeated after four rounds when they met Western Suburbs at Pratten Park yesterday.
Meanwhile, Parramatta firsts scored their fifth-straight win in sensational circumstances at Pratten Park on Sunday.
Saturday’s play had been abandoned when the umpires
deemed the pitch too dangerous to continue.
Wests had been 4-45 then.
The wicket had been falling apart and one good-length ball from Daniel Jackson had knocked out a piece of the pitch the size of a 50-cent piece and eventually a patch of about 30 square centimetres was missing from the
pitch.
When a batsman was struck a heavy knock on the elbow from a ball which reared dangerously the umpires had no choice but to abandon play.
Agreement was reached after much debate that if the Wests curator Liam Zammit (who is captain of St George first grade and therefore unavailable) could bring another wicket up overnight which was satisfactory, then both captains would agree to continue, rather than accept a draw.
Overnight, the new wicket had been cut and flooded to overcome the extreme dryness of the square and close up the cracks.
Batting was still difficult and Wests were dismissed for 102.
Parramatta speedster Ben Martin took 4-31 and Anthony Marr swung the ball prodigiously into the breeze and finished with 3-36.
Parramatta faced a nasty chase on a poor wicket gainst top-class pace bowling, including from NSW paceman Mitchell Starc.
He took the first wicket for nought but from there Parramatta scored 4-115.
Nick Watkins batted with class for his 27 and Jason Kelly’s unbeaten 37 was a superb captain’s knock.
Meanwhile, seconds, thirds and fifths lost on the first innings and thirds won outright.
Parramatta firsts host Bankstown in a limited-overs match at Old Kings this Saturday.
