PARRAMATTA'S match against Penrith is on a knife edge after an extraordinary opening to their two-day first-grade cricket clash at Old Kings.
Anthony Marr ripped through the Penrith batting after the visitors chose to bat on a moist wicket.
Left-armer Marr swung the ball prodigiously as Penrith were reduced to 4-12 and then 5-17.
Unfortunately, Parramatta were a paceman short to finish the job because Sean Abbott was unable to bowl.
Penrith clawed their way past 100 before veteran paceman Daniel Jackson finished the job, ending with 5-33 and Marr 4-38.
Penrith's middle-order fightback seemed of little concern when Parramatta reached 1-39, but then came a remarkable collapse that saw the hosts lose 7-26, with only Adam Turrell, 31, offering resistance.
It was left up to captain Michael Wood, 31, and Marr, 13, to last until stumps. They will resume with Parramatta needing another 41 runs to take first-innings points.
Seconds are much better placed after scoring 313.
Roger Frare, 73, Luke Forbes, 49, and James Wood, 65, were the main men.
Thirds did even better, smashing 5-350.
Luke Dempsey, 140, and Trent Crittenden, 69, shared a huge unbeaten sixth-wicket partnership.
In fourths, Penrith are 1-79 chasing 186.
Fifths will battle to avoid an outright loss after scoring just 118 and having Penrith belt 1-122 in reply.
