HOWZAT! Parramatta and Holroyd councils go head to head in a special Twenty20 cricket match at the Merrylands Oval on Sunday.
The Parramatta team will be captained by Lord Mayor Paul Garrard and the Holroyd team will be captained by Mayor Cr John Perry, with team players being drawn from councillors, council officers and cricket players from the Parramatta District Cricket Club.
Each team will field at least three female participants.
The council has a lot to play for in addition to the winning team being presented with the Mayoral Challenge Shield, the losing mayor will have to wear the tie of the opposing council for a week.
The losing team must also display the winning council's flag on its town hall.
Parramatta Lord Mayor Paul Garrard said the game is a friendly and fun event but in the true spirit of Aussie competition each team will be going all out to win.
``I know my opposite number at Holroyd, Cr John Perry, is keen to get me wearing his council tie for a week but I'll be hoping that the Parramatta crest will be flying high and proudly over Holroyd town hall,'' he said. ``Whatever the outcome the match will promote cricket and the positive health aspects of getting involved in sport, and demonstrate the good working relationship that councils must have with their neighbours.''
The match will begin at 6.30pm and there will be a community barbecue and refreshments available.
