Many reasons to celebrate

14 Oct, 2009 02:39 PM
WHILE many charities are being hit hard by a drop in investment and corporate sponsorship, there is one charity that has reason to be celebrating.

Northcott Disability Services which began during the Great Depression in 1929 as the NSW Society for Crippled Children in response to children living with polio is celebrating the milestone of 80 years.

To celebrate 80 years of building an inclusive society for people living with disabilities and their families, Northcott will hold an 80th Anniversary Gala Ball, sponsored by Anchorage Capital Partners, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney, on Saturday, October 31.

The gala event, Dancing through the Ages, will treat 300 guests to a three-course meal hosted by Channel Nine News anchor Peter Overton and comedienne Jean Kittson. The laughs will continue during the night with Stephen ``Sandman'' Abbott.

The night will also feature professional dancers and musicians travelling through the decades, from rock'n'roll to disco to industrial tap. Guests will also hear from Alan Jones, Mike Munro and 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games bronze medal champion Jayme Paris, as they send their birthday wishes to Northcott via video.

Northcott chief executive, Kerry Stubbs said she was excited to celebrate Northcott's 80 years of achievement.

```The Gala Ball is a chance to celebrate all of our achievements over the past 80 years, and to raise money for further innovations in the future,'' Ms Stubbs said.
The evening aims to raise more than $100,000.
All proceeds will go towards a fund in support of practice-based research into innovations that will improve the lives of people with disabilities and their families.
Northcott's celebrity ambassadors, including Susie Maroney, Dr Cindy Pan, Peter Wynn and Parramatta Eels player Joel Reddy, will be there.
Tickets can be bought by visiting northcott.com.au or calling Michael Johnson on 98900127.
Individual tickets are $195, tables of 10 are $1929 or a VIP table of 10 with a special guest host is $2500.
Key supporters on the night already include the luxurious Six Senses Resorts & Spas, Jardine Lloyd and Thomson and Raine and Horne Commercial Parramatta.
