JOIN in the celebration as Northcott Disability Services turns 80.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of Northcott Disability Services' provision of care and support to children and adults with disabilities across NSW and the ACT.

The organisation aims to celebrate its achievements and progress over the years as they continue to ``endeavour to maximise potential and minimise difference''.

Northcott Disability Services (formerly known as the NSW Society for Crippled Children) was founded in 1929 by the Rotary Club of Sydney in response to serious deficiencies in medical and curative treatment for the growing number of children with polio and tuberculosis.

The vision of the organisation then was to permanently care for the surgical aid of ``crippled'' children and make plans for their education and vocational training.

After eight months, 1153 children were identified and registered as needing support.

Today, Northcott Disability Services has expanded and developed, providing support and care to more than 6000 people with a disability and their families across NSW and the ACT by offering a range of quality programs which promote an inclusive society.

From early childhood development through to assisting individuals to gain employment and independent living skills, Northcott's provision of services centres on each stage of life.

As they mark their anniversary the organisation continues to try to fulfil its vision to be the leading provider of choice and meet the needs of three times more clients by 2012.

Northcott launched its 80th anniversary celebrations with a reception at Government House in May.
