Mortgage battlers hit

24 Jun, 2009 05:00 AM
A RECENT Office of State Revenue (OSR) report suggests the suburbs of Wentworthville, Parramatta and Merrylands will be among those hit hardest by bank mortgage rate rises.

The OSR report has ranked these suburbs in the top 20 for NSW home buyers' grants. Wentworthville residents rank second in the state having received more than $18 million dollars from the scheme.

Financial adviser Tanya Sale said the provision of these grants may have convinced many people to take on bigger mortgages than they could really afford.

``We are heading into dangerous waters, with the Government throwing all this money at first home owners when interest rates are their lowest in 40 years,'' she said.

``We are going to see a rapid increase in mortgage repossession and I think the Government and the banks have a lot to answer for.''

Ranking the State:

2nd - Wentworthville with 1621 grants totalling $18,201,753.

7th - Parramatta with 1014 grants totalling $10,927,88.

17th - Merrylands 773 with grants totalling $7,929,974.
