Investigations continue into shooting death of an armed robber

27 Aug, 2008 10:47 AM
Investigations are continuing into the shooting death of an armed robber at the National Australia Bank in Parramatta last week.

Kalid Dib was shot by an Armaguard security guard during an attempted armed robbery at 6.30pm last Tuesday, August 19.

A cash-in-transit van was parked in George Street outside the National Australia Bank when three masked men two carrying firearms threatened two armed guards who were inside the bank.

Police said the two men were wearing dark clothing with hoods and beanies.

Police allege one of the guards shot at the masked men who then ran from the premises.

As the two armed men ran from the bank it is alleged a third guard waiting outside the premises also fired his weapon.

Mr Dib, 25, of Auburn, sustained a gunshot wound before the three men fled the scene in a white Mitsubishi Lancer that had stolen number plates.

The car was later found burned out in Berala.

Mr Dib was dropped off outside Auburn Hospital. It is believed he was dead on arrival.

Police were forced to disperse a large crowd of about 100 friends and family of Mr Dib who had gathered outside Auburn Hospital.

Police are still searching for the other men involved in the incident.

About 200 mourners gathered at Lakemba Mosque on Thursday for Mr Dib's funeral.

Anyone with information about the incident who hasn't yet spoken to police is urged to call Parramatta police, 96339633 or Crime Stoppers, 1800333000.

If I were the security guard who shot Mr Dib, I would say "I shot the bank robber, I didn't shoot a good boy"

"Good boys" don't commit armed robbery in a car with stolen plates. Mr Dib put himself in that situation and faced the ultimate consequence. While I have sympathy for his family and the grief they will be suffering, I don't have sympathy for him. He shouldn't have been committing armed robbery in the first place.

I agree with the above posted comments.. The armed robbers knew the consequences of robbing an armaguard and the fact they carry fully loaded firearms.. I have no sympathy for the dead man he deserves what he got...

What do you think will happen when you threaten an armed guard with a gun? Do you expect him just to say "oooh, please don't hurt me, take the money. And my gun, that's just for show". I don't think so. Do what these guys did - expect to be shot. Simple.
