More than 170 residents attended a community consultation forum on proposed changes to bus routes in Holroyd, held yesterday at the council.
Following a state-wide review into bus routes, the Government is proposing to ''streamline'' services in Holroyd.
The mayor of Holroyd, Greg Cummings, has expressed his concern and believes the city will be disadvantaged if the plans go ahead.
Under the proposed changes, many services will be directed to Parramatta bypassing the commercial centres of Merrylands, Guildford and Greystanes.
Residents at yesterday's two-hour meeting expressed their dislike about being forced to go into Parramatta, rather than Merrylands and Greystanes - areas that are well serviced by a variety of shops including the soon to be expanded Stocklands mall.
Parramatta was too big, too busy and not aged-friendly, many of the residents said.
One resident who will be disadvantaged if the changes are approved is Gaby Hannemann, of South Wentworthville.
She relies on catching the bus home from Merrylands Road.
''It will be a great inconvenience because rather than being direct to South Wentworthville, which is five minutes down the road, they will take the long way around via Parramatta,'' she said.
''I catch a taxi to go into Merrylands but I won't be able to afford to catch one twice a day, several days a week.
''The buses are easy and convenient the way they are.''
A ministry of transport official attended the meeting to hear residents' concerns and promised to consider all submissions before any decisions were made.
Another community consultation will be held on Wednesday February 4, 6pm-7pm, at the Holroyd Centre in Miller Street, Merrylands.
