Grove adds trees

17 Jun, 2009 11:17 AM
REMOVING unwanted trees from backyards may soon become a whole lot easier for residents of Holroyd City.

Holroyd councillor Ross Grove has proposed the addition of an extra five plant species to the list of trees that will be able to be removed without gaining council permission.

Councillors agreed to reviewing the current list in order to add false acacia, liquidambar, camphor laurel, tree of heaven and the Cootamundra wattle to the list.

Cr Grove said the move to cut the red tape around tree removal was a small step in his fight for reform on tree regulations.

``Our restrictions are far more onerous and rigid compared with green-orientated councils like Ku-ring-gai,'' he said.

``They simply create unnecessary paperwork burden on residents.''
