Deaf Society gets interpreter

23 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
THE Deaf Society of NSW based at Parramatta has appointed Deborah Nicholas (pictured) as the manager of Sign Language Communications for NSW and ACT.

Sign Language Communications is the Auslan-interpreting division of the deaf society and is the longest-running interpreting service in the state.

Ms Nicholas is a qualified conference interpreter and translator from French and Italian with 16 years of project-management experience in the language technology and speech technology sectors, including setting up and running interpreting and translation departments in Australia and overseas.

She is a volunteer translator for Translators Without Borders and Rosetta Foundation.

Sign Language Communications division is the only Auslan interpreting service where all profits are invested back into services which benefit the deaf community.

A Deaf Society spokesman said the organisation welcomes Ms Nicholas to the management team and is looking forward to having her experience contribute to the Deaf Society's Vision of Equity for Deaf People.
