FOR the first time in more than a decade, Eastern Creek Raceway will resonate with the sounds of pulsating rock music.
The site was announced last week as the new home for the Sydney leg of the annual Soundwave travelling concert series.
On Sunday, February22, about 50 bands most of them from overseas will set up camp at the site, which will be split to fit six stages.
The event will be headlined by industrial rock giants Nine-Inch Nails, who also topped the bill at the last rock festival that was held at the Creek the Alternative Nation show back in 1995.
The rest of the acts read like a who's who of contemporary rock, metal and punk.
Also on the bill are Alice In Chains (the musicians who will play comprise a reformed group), the Bloodhound Gang, Lacuna Coil, Dillinger Escape Plan, In Flames, Less Than Jake and Anberlin.
The organisers of Soundwave have a release on the festival website in which they say that Eastern Creek Raceway is an ideal space for a multi-stage event and ``comes unburdened with noise restrictions and curfews''.
They say that the move to Eastern Creek will enable the bands to be heard well beyond the 30-metre mark.
The official release on the website goes on to say: ``We will also be celebrating the extension in operating time to add a couple of surprise acts that are exclusive to Soundwave.''
Late last week Ticketek confirmed that there were then still about 2000 tickets for the event still on sale.
The tickets cost $135 each and are available from Ticketek outlets or from ticketek.com.au.
