Parramatta will host four days of Middle Eastern dance, music and arts, when the internationally acclaimed Farha Tour brings Egyptian belly-dancers, whirling dervishes and other performers to Australia for the first time.
The world-class dancers will be part of shows, workshops and an exotic bazaar from November 6 to 9 at Riverside Theatres and the Latin Soul Dance Studios in Church Street.
This Middle Eastern festival will feature performances and workshops by belly-dancers, whirling dervishes, folkloric artists and musicians from Egypt.
The Khan El-Khalili Bazaar will run each day in the courtyard at Riverside Theatres, with free dance performances and a shopping mecca with vendors from Egypt and Australia selling belly-dance costumes, authentic Egyptian cuisine and souvenirs.
Riverside will also host Cairo Night Concerts with performances by native Egyptian dancers, whirling dervishes and musicians, from November 6 to 8.
Egyptian and Australian artists will hold workshops, for beginners to advanced students, every day of the tour at the Latin Soul Dance Studios, levels2 and 3, at 292Church Street, Parramatta.
Said organiser Amera Eid, who owns Amera's Palace Belly-Dance Boutique in Enmore: "Nowhere outside the Middle East can you see a collective group of international Egyptian performers of such high calibre. This is a first for our country and I encourage everyone to soak up the exciting atmosphere.''
Said Sydney belly-dancer and teacher Georgette: "As a teacher and performer I'm aware most people will not get to see or hear an authentic belly-dance show outside the Middle East. Even then, good quality performances are becoming scarce because young people in the Middle East love Western music and electronica.''
Ms Eid said farha meant joy and celebration and was used to describe the combined atmosphere of performers, audience and music in Cairo nightclubs.
